Five runners. All over 100kg. One 24-hour backyard ultra.

Rise of the Heavyweights follows five heavyweight runners as they prepare to take on a 24-hour backyard ultra, coached by Jordan Stanton. The project explores what happens when a group who don't necessarily fit the conventional image of endurance athletes commit themselves to an extreme running challenge.

A group of five men dressed in black t-shirts and bandanas, wearing sunglasses, sitting at a dining table in a restaurant, showing excitement and laughter while looking at a man standing with a whiteboard, who appears to be talking to them. The table is set with food, drinks, and condiments, and there are framed pictures of trains and landmarks on the wall behind them.

THE CAMPAIGN

Ahead of production, we created a series of campaign images introducing the athletes and the tone of the documentary — combining endurance-running culture with the humour and identity behind the Heavyweights project.
